Program:  Improving the Conversation between Systems Engineers and Project Managers

Presenter:  Bob Ferguson, Sr. Member of the Technical Staff, SEI

Abstract

The number of larger projects involving IT teams is actually growing. Implementing ERP systems, CRM systems, service-oriented architectures, etc., all require multiple teams and many months. This talk will discuss concrete, analytical methods for coordinating the work with the design and vice versa. A useful takeaway will be a method and graphic for communicating design progress. This is not a methodology talk and is suited to all organizations involved in product development, including those developing IT products for internal use.

About the Presenter

Bob Ferguson is a Senior Member of the Technical Staff at the Software Engineering Institute. He works in Software Engineering Measurement and Analysis where his primary interests are in project management and product development. He is also a PMP and is a past chairman of C-SPIN.

Driving and Parking Directions

From I-90 Northwest Tollway, exit North on Barrington Road. Take Barrington Road to Lakewood Blvd (2nd light) and turn East (right) onto Lakewood Blvd.  Turn right into the AT&T Campus Center’s West Employee Entrance (the first entrance past Eagle Way) and follow the signs to the West Parking Structures.

Parking is available in covered lots W2 or W3 as well as upper level parking lot W1.  Look for parking spaces towards the west end of the parking structures.  The Institute Building, located across the road (west of the parking structures), is approximately a 3-5 minute walk from the parking structure.
