Overview
of the Software Engineering Institute CMMI Product Suite
Dan
Weinberger, Motorola
The
Integrated CMM from the SEI provides a set of process requirements for those
organizations desiring a framework for System Engineering, Software Engineering
and Integrated Product Development. In this overview you will get a background
on the trends in the last decade that led to this model as well as a survey of
model contents. Then you will see how the KPAs from the CMM Levels have evolved
into the Process Areas of the CMMI Levels. You will see the contrasts between
the two major representations of the CMMI, Staged and Continuous. Finally you
will hear a summary of how the SEI intends to institutionalize these models.
Dan
Weinberger is Software Process Manager for Motorola's iDEN System Division,
leading a team of process engineers who serve the embedded telecommunication
systems teams who develop the 20MM+ LOC systems used by Nextel and other
wireless operators. Since 1995 Dan has been an SEI Lead Appraiser and has led
or participated in both CBA IPI assessments and Motorola's CAF-compliant
assessment called QSR10. Dan is a member of a Motorola working group that is
planning Motorola's transition from using the CMM to CMMI. Dan has taught CMM
and the CBA IPI method within Motorola.
